Young People at Heart Hereford’s foster carers, staff and children enjoyed an activity day in the grounds of the National Trust’s Woodchester Park in Gloucestershire today.
The ‘Play Trail’ through the woods allowed the children to enjoy a day in the fresh air, exploring a variety of climbing frames, bridges, musical logs and balance beams, ending the morning with a picnic lunch under the trees.
We met at 10.30am and an excited group of children headed to the first of the activity sites. They were soon fully engaged in exploring the area, gathering sticks (Harry Potter wands) and enjoying running along the wooded trail.
While the children were playing and making new friends, foster carers had the chance to talk to fellow foster carers and share experiences. We were delighted one of our new foster families, who are in the process of transferring to us with their foster children, also joined us, and had the opportunity of meeting our foster carers and staff.
Dave Bailey, Manager of the Hereford office was delighted with the day. He said it was so important for foster carers to have a chance to meet each other and build up their own network of friendships and support within the Young People at Heart family.
Gary Cox, who founded Young People at Heart with his wife Davina, said a highlight for him was to see all the children playing together. It was impossible to identify the foster children in the group. It really was like one large, happy family.
