Over the last two weekends, Young People at Heart took 270 people comprising young people in care, their foster families and support networks, staff and their families, and friends and supporters of the organisation to two Pantomimes; Peter Pan at The Courtyard Theatre in Hereford and Aladdin at the Thameside Theatre in Grays, Essex. During the interval, everyone was treated to an ice-cream in true Panto fashion.
Davina Cox, co-founder of Young People at Heart, said that a Pantomime characterised a traditional Christmas family outing and that she and Gary were so pleased to see so many children and families enjoying the fun and antics at both Pantomimes. For many of the foster children, it was their first time attending a Pantomime and the foster families had really entered into the spirit of the event, with Christmas jumpers evident in abundance. Davina said that another highlight for her was that a number of the foster children’s siblings, in foster placements elsewhere, had been able to attend the event as well, and this embraced the family ethos that Young People at Heart sought to achieve.
We look forward to our 2019 Pantomime visits, and with our first foster carers being assessed in our new Yorkshire office, that will be 3 Pantomimes!
